The "Hail, Caesar! Flip Clock"

Hail, Caesar!, is the 2016, star-studded comedy set during Hollywood's Golden Age, written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen - Academy Award and Four-time Oscar winning filmmakers. The Coen Brother's credits include No Country for Old Men, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, True Grit, and Fargo.
Cast: Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Channing Tatum.

As many flip clock fans know, the Panasonic RC-6003 appears in No Country for Old Men. And now, we have Coen Brothers to thank for another Movie Flip Clock!

Movie Plot: Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin) is a Hollywood "fixer" for the production of the upcoming film entitled "Hail Caesar" starring famous actor Baird Whitlock (George Clooney). Back during Hollywood's "Golden Age," (the movie is set in the early 1950s) fixers were tasked with keeping unsavory details about actors' personal lives out of the limelight supposedly by using whatever tactics were necessary (including bribes and brutes). Mannix is forced to deal with "The Future" - a group who has kidnapped the movie's star, Baird Whitlock, for a ransom of $100,000 (over a million dollars in today's dollars which Mannix treats as chump change).

Flip Clock Sighting: The newest of the Movie Flip Clocks is well represented in the movie "Hail, Caesar!" and is shot from multiple angles (primarily the front and the back). The clock sits on the desk of Eddie Mannix right by what appears to be a vintage Western Electric dial telephone. The clock can be seen at the following times (approximately):
7 minutes 30 sec; 43 minutes; 47 mins; 1 hour, 21 minutes; and 1 hour, 29 mins.

Introducing the "Hail, Caesar! Flip Clock!"
By all appearances, and practically certain due to the multiple angles seen in the movie, the clock featured in the movie is a General Electric Model 8113. This is a classy flip clock with black digits on white cards, housed in a real Japanese Cherry with walnut finish wood case.

And Announcing - A Hail, Caesar! Movie Mistake!
Adding to this newly discovered movie flip clock's cool factor is the fact that the GE Model 8113 is clearly out of place in this movie's setting. As stated, the movie takes place in the 1950s Flip Clocks were not mass produced until the late 1960s.

The GE Model 8113 is known for it's 1950s classic styling. And perhaps this is why the clock was chosen by the set department. However, this clock was not even manufactured until 1970! Unfortunately, eBay sellers continue to spread the error stating that the clock is "mid-century." But as can be seen from the advertisement below from December 20, 1970 - the clock was the new thing for the 70s.

So there you have it. If you're a collector of Movie Flip Clocks, it's time to hit eBay, Etsy or estate sales to secure the next addition to your collection - The "Hail, Caesar! Flip Clock"
