  • Can you call a flip clock an analog clock?

Can you call a flip clock an analog clock?

As a fan of flip clocks, I used to strongly affirm that the use of "analog" to describe a flip clock was patently wrong. A flip clock is a digital clock with an electro-mechanical time keeping mechanism. Many people asserted that since the clock did not use what we would call "digital" technology, such a clocks with integrated circuits and LED displays, but instead used mechanical time keeping, it should be called digital analog. Or in this case, an analog flip clock. Now, using this line of thinking, th...

Review of the Target FC1000 - the Pill Clock

Introducing ... the "Pill Clock" Floating around the auction sites you'll occasionally happen upon a strange little pill - The Target FC1000 Flip Clock with alarm and radio. The clock was manufactured for Target in China and apparently sold in the US and France (the two languages on the clock) around 2009-2010. Apparently not a huge hit back then, for modern flip clock fans, it remains a very interesting clock regardless. Appearance:The case of the clock is white, with the tuner and volume dials offerin...

The colored cabinet has a texture to it that is reminiscent of leather while the trim is smooth. The clock measures an exact 8 1/2 inches in width, 3 1/4 inches in height, 5 inches in depth (at the widest po...

  • How Does A Flip Clock Work? A Look At A Flip Clock Mechanism

How Does A Flip Clock Work? A Look At A Flip Clock Mechanism

One of the things that makes flip clocks so interesting, is the fact that while they are digital clocks, and were considered quite "modern" in their day, they are purely mechanical, or more precisely, electromechanical. The mechanical design won awards back in the day (late 60s to 70s) and the minute by minute flipping of numbers was found to be mesmerizing by many. Today, flip clocks bring back memories of the "space age" for those who lived it, and today are sought out for...

What Flip Clock appeared in the movie, Back To The Future? - The answer may be more complicated than once thought. Discussion of the "RC-6015/6010 Error Clock." In the movie classic, Back To The Future, Marty McFly wakes to the alarm of a simulated wood cabinet, Panasonic Digital FM-AM Clock Radio (a type of vintage clock, now typically referred to as a "flip clock").
